I have never met you or Mr. Massa but like the rest of the world I know you have had the hardest decade of your life. I have lost a dad, a brother, aunt and uncles in my time so I understand loss. But I will never know your loss, so tragic and the memories never made and stolen from you. As a fellow Massa know you have mine and my families love. I cry for you and yours and every victim lost in that vicious day. In Tennessee we have watched from afar your journey and took from your strength the hope for the future. Know love is all around you and will follow you all of your days. You have a hug and a smile waiting here for your family. God speed and enjoy the beautiful new fountains in the footprints.

Dear Patrice:

It’s been a long time so I don’t know if you remember me, a good friend of Nick’s from Puerto Rico with a nick-name of Tito.

I met Nick when about 30-40 years ago. From that time on, I think the communication between us couldn’t have been better in and out of business. He always tried to help me in every way he could.

Now, since his life changed, I must remember Nick at least once a week whenever I deal with insurance outside this Island or I see a photo of New York. He will be remembered by me as a very serious insurance man in work and a very jolly person outside of business. I don’t think I ever saw Nick without a smile or a great laugh and cannot imagine anyone ever did. He respected everyone and everyone respected him.

Patrice, what a wonderful way to remember Nick is this page! I had tried to get your address to express my condolences since 9/11 but had not been able to find it. Today, while remembering that horrendous day and Nick, I checked out Google and found your page. From now on, there will be a new “click” to my mind to remember Nick. Rest assured that when I see a full moon over our skies, I’ll be thinking of both of you on the beach in Puerto Rico. And of course, I will say at least one Our Father and one Hail Mary for Nick as I do. I can see the smile on his face.

Best personal regards,

Miguel (Tito) Casellas

Dear sweet Patrice,

Experts say we will always remember where we were and what we were doing that horrific day. Nick was a great guy. I still remember that grin. I spent days on the phone with you, trying desperately to somehow make you feel some comfort and to give you positive hope. I didn't suffer a great loss as you did, but in the month to follow, I would lose my marriage, my wife, and my children. In case you are wondering who this is, it's Sal, Nick's cousin, Cyndi's ex. It has been such a long time. I found this site and felt compelled to write. Would love to hear from you at virgoson914 (at) aol (dot) com.

Yes, Nick worked at Griswold a million years ago and his talent was renowned---There are very few in the insurance industry that commanded the love and respect that Nick did---He kept clients for over 40 years---through his talents, hard work and the caring relationships he had with everyone. I don't know of anyone else that was as successful. Personally, he was even better---the most unselfish, loving, talented and fun person. He is greatly loved and missed.

Was this the same Nick Massa who worked at Griswold? If so, he was someone who really had a lot of talent. God Bless Him.

My name is also Nicholas Massa. I have been to this site before but never wrote anything. I am compelled to write something now. My birthday is October 8th, if that date means anything. I also wish I would have met him as it is clear that he was a great man!

God rest your soul, and may we all remember you with love on this terrible, terrible day.

Patrice: Every time I think of Nick, it brings a smile to my face and heart. He would never admit to his generosity and kindness because it truly embarrassed him and he was just being himself!. I loved this man.

I prayed for you today and your family... God Bless you! Your daughter Donna's sister in law

I worked with Nick at Brown Crosby from 1956 till 1963. Then we worked together again when I was with Grumman, and he was the account executive for property. He was a great guy who was full of fun and very helpful to me in my career. We crossed each other's path many times during the succeeding years. I remember playing golf with him many times. I miss him and think of him often. God bless him.

Hello Patrice,

I came across your web page because my son's name is Nick Massa.... My heart goes out to you! Please let me share this poem with you that was given to me when I lost a loved one.... It helps me get thru the day....

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path god has laid, you see,
I took his hand when I heard him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the dawn of day.
If my passing has left a void,
Then fill it with remembering joy--
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Oh, yes, these things I too shall miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much:
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart, and peace to thee.
God wanted me now; he has set me free!

7th Thanksgiving without Nick! Both of us loved this holiday the most--still too difficult, but how thankful I am that I had Nick in my life! What joy and happiness he brought to so many people who still miss him so much. Thank you, God, for such a wonderful gift.

Love,
Patrice

Nick is gone in body, but his wonderful spirit will remain with those of us who knew him for all time. Not a day goes by that I don't think of our foursome and the wonderful times we shared together. Golf, racetrack, ball games, dinners--especially the ones he cooked.

Patrice, I know Nick is looking out for you, and I feel certain he wants you to recover from this awful tragedy. Having said that, I find myself in a similar situation:
---Lost!---

Patrice,

With each passing year, I do think of you and wonder how you're doing. I just happened to come across this site and just had to say that you are not alone. There are so many of us that do miss Nick, and we care for you, too. My father especially. I can only hope that you can find some comfort in knowing this, and please believe that Nick is watching over you and loving you just as much as you do him.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
