I am so glad to have been lucky enough to have known Nick. Nick was my manager at Chase Manhattan. He was a great boss, a great person, always ready to listen and motivate.
Thinking of you today and often. You're truly missed. God bless. xxx

I worked with Nick in London in the 1980s and watched him move up from delivering the office mail to marketing, and then on to greater business success. We had great times at work and afterwards at the pub, and it was great to see him do well and to spend time with him briefly in NYC many years later. Everyone loved Nick for his intelligence, wit, creativity, storytelling, and good cheer. He is still missed.

Nick was my manager at Chase Manhattan Bank when I was just starting my career. He is a true inspiration to me, and I always considered him to be a great role model. Above all, the most appealing thing I remember about him was his terrific sense of humour. I feel sure you are now in a very peaceful place.

September 11th 2007.
Nick, you'll never be forgotten - always in the hearts of your family, friends and many work colleagues whose lives you touched.
Last time I saw you in Manhattan, Fiddlesticks. It was a memorable evening shared with both you and Megan...
Thinking about you today, especially..

Nick, 6 years on today and I find myself thinking of you so I thought I would do something positive. So I 'googled' your name and came across this site. Nick - you were a friend I met at university in Cardiff in 1978 and although I knew you from the beginning at Llys tal-y- bont,it was only when we shared a house together in llandaff in the 3rd year that I really got to know you well. After that year we all went our separate paths, but never failed to keep in touch and every time we met you had that knack of making me think that we had known each other all our lives. We shared a passion for all things Welsh, especially the rugby and the never ending stream of emails - usually at the expense of the English were always welcome and a huge source of fun.
The holiday with you in New York in April '01 was still one of the best and even though you were working and probably had dozens of friends who visited you from all over the world, you and Megan made us feel we were very special guests finding time every day to be the perfect hosts, showing us the sites and the haunts that you frequented. still sorely missed pal..

Nick, I never met you, but I remember my parents always praised you and shared all the fun times you had together shortly before they went to visit you in New York. You are remembered in our house. God Bless You, Nick.

Rarely do you get a chance to meet and work with someone of the caliber of Nick--a great colleague and friend. I had the privilege to work with Nick at Softbridge between 1986-87 and it was a memorable time--work hard and play hard. A great sense of humour--Monty Python sketches had us rolling around in stitches. Although we had drifted apart as we pursued different careers in the City, we would occasionally bump into each other and relive some of the old times. I am in NY today (01/15/07), took a moment to go and see his name on the plaque again. A colleague, friend and a greatly missed individual--still.

I had the privilege of being Nick’s friend from ‘70 to ’78 when we were classmates at Ystalyfera School, Wales, UK. He was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He had a really funny sense of humor, and could see the funny side of any situation. I remember once at school, we were told off by a teacher for doing something wrong and when the teacher angrily said to me and Nick, “Boys what are you doing here?” Nick replied with a cheeky smile on his face, “Well sir, everyone’s got to be somewhere”. This was just typical of his sense of humor which could disarm the most fearsome of teachers.
I have just been looking at an old photograph of our school rugby team from around 1977. I was sitting in the front row and Nick was standing just behind me. Those were very happy times, and when I think of those days, I can always see Nick smiling and joking and bringing pleasure and happiness to everyone who met him.
The last time I saw Nick was in Cardiff before a rugby international sometime in the mid 80s. He was happy and looking forward to the future.
Here’s to you Nick.

I met Nick after he swept my best friend Megan off her feet many years ago and stole her from Australia to live in London and then New York. I still can't believe he's gone. He was the smartest, funniest, most generous person anyone could ever hope to know. Have you ever met anyone who can work on a computer program, watch a rugby match, and carry on a conversation all at once? Well Nick could! Best of all he made Megan happy. I know that ANYBODY that knew him, even briefly, will still be missing him. There has never been another one like Nick. We all miss him.

Sarah,
Firstly, thank you for setting this site up and for creating a forum where Nicks friends can share memories.
I had the honour of working with Nick from 1995 onwards and quickly realised what a genuine, sincere and honest guy he was. Add to that his humour, his intelligence and his fantastic personality and you can start to appreciate what a great loss he has been for so many people.
The memorial service for Nick, held at the Chase (JPMorgan) offices in London was an exceptionally moving occasion and the stories shared by some of his closest friends and colleagues brought smiles to everyone's faces despite the fact that this was a sad occasion. It speaks volumes for the joy and laughter that he had brought to so many.
Finally, Nick and I had a little joke running for a few years whereby, whenever he was back in the UK or I in New York we would exchange a 1$ bill, saying here's that dollar I owe you. Two weeks before 9/11 a colleague of ours (Kevin O'Neill) was with Nick in NY, and Nick gave him a dollar bill for me.... Sadly, Kevin gave me that dollar bill at Nick's memorial service!
I often think of Nick and the great loss that he was to everyone that ever knew him.

I worked with Nick for a number of years and learned a tremendous amount from him. He was a colleague, friend and mentor and is regularly in my thoughts especially, but not only, around the time of 9/11.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
