Sarah,

Firstly, thank you for setting this site up and for creating a forum where Nicks friends can share memories.

I had the honour of working with Nick from 1995 onwards and quickly realised what a genuine, sincere and honest guy he was. Add to that his humour, his intelligence and his fantastic personality and you can start to appreciate what a great loss he has been for so many people.

The memorial service for Nick, held at the Chase (JPMorgan) offices in London was an exceptionally moving occasion and the stories shared by some of his closest friends and colleagues brought smiles to everyone's faces despite the fact that this was a sad occasion. It speaks volumes for the joy and laughter that he had brought to so many.

Finally, Nick and I had a little joke running for a few years whereby, whenever he was back in the UK or I in New York we would exchange a 1$ bill, saying here's that dollar I owe you. Two weeks before 9/11 a colleague of ours (Kevin O'Neill) was  with Nick in NY, and Nick gave him a dollar bill for me.... Sadly, Kevin gave me that dollar bill at Nick's memorial service!

I often think of Nick and the great loss that he was to everyone that ever knew him.

I worked with Nick for a number of years and learned a tremendous amount from him. He was a colleague, friend and mentor and is regularly in my thoughts especially, but not only, around the time of 9/11.

I am an old friend of Nick's from his Chase Manhattan days and spent many an evening shooting the breeze with him and Megan, especially during our years living in New York. Five years on, I find myself thinking of him often and many, many mutual friends still sit around some table and remember times with him so very fondly (and with much laughter). He really was a kind man with a cheeky Welsh smile and sense of humour, and all of us who were lucky enough to know him will remember him always.

He was a man of dreams and then made them work! I miss his fun and sprit of life. He is well missed by friends and work mates.

Nick was, quite simply, one of the nicest blokes I ever met. I knew him quite well in the mid 80's when he was a support engineer working for a software company whose product my employer had just bought. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him, everything was always done with a sense of humour. We became good friends, and shared together after work, talking about life, the universe and everything. Nick never had a bad word to say about anyone. Welsh to the core, he had a massive commute to London from Wootton Bassett where he lived, but even this he put up with great fortitude. Sadly, we drifted apart when I moved jobs, and I only learnt of his death a year or so back when I bumped into a mutual friend at a wedding. Sarah, you picked a real gem to remember, one of life's real gentlemen. I've searched a couple of times for references to him on the Web, this is the first I've come across, just sad that there are not more comments. Nick, wherever you are, you're not forgotten.

Sarah, Nick was my "pen friend" (pen pal) over many years, starting when we were young- he was in Wales and I was in the U.S.. Although we talked on the phone and wrote hundreds of letters (in the days before email), we never met. He had a great sense of humor and loved music. He'd tell me he wasn't particularly artistic, but I disagree (still have some sketches he sent). He'd worked in many different places around the world. Always thoughtful, he sent beautiful roses to me on my wedding day and remembered my family and me at Christmas, etc. Hope you'll keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sarah, Nick John was a friend of mine.  He was born in Wales and was a fun loving, great guy. He was working in New York for Chase Manhattan Bank as an ex-patriot British citizen.  He went to a meeting at Windows on the World, the morning of September 11th and didn't make it out. I'm glad you chose Nick.  You would have liked him, if you had had a chance to meet him.

One year ago my University asked its students to choose a name of a person who perished on 9/11/01 and wear a name tag showing that person's name.  I chose Nicholas John and I have kept that name tag. I never met him and I have never even been to New York, however I have been praying for the comfort of his loved ones since 9/11/02.  Though I do not know this person, Nicholas and his family and friends have someone from Idaho praying for them and I hold you all in my heart.  God bless you and I hope you find comfort in his love.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. We are maintaining this site with our own money and time. We try to keep the advertisements to a minimum and we try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.

Thank you for your understanding in these matters.
