I give my sincere condolences to the family of this wonderful hero. God Bless Orio and all the other firefighters who were lost on 9-11. We, as a Nation, will never forget these men who were just doing their jobs.

I never heard of him until yesterday 09/10/11, as I was watching the news about 9/11. He was a very brave person and died trying to save others. His family can be very proud of him - just saw his name on TV.

I am truly overwhelmed with emotion in hearing Chief Orio Palmers story. He is indeed a hero in the most purist form. I am an up and coming firefighter paramedic. I am almost finished with my schooling and cannot wait to be on the front line saving lives. Chief Palmer is and will always be an inspiration to me. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. I will never forget what I learned about this amazing individual.
And in the words of one of my Fire Instructors "Firefighters are not heros, were just ordinary men doing extraordinary things"

I must admit right away that I did not have the time to read all the other comments folks have posted - have to run to work. But I just found out the story behind Orio from the History channel and I just wanted to say this... This man is the epitome of HUMANITY. If the entire world were made up of people like him there would be no war, no disease, no famine, no thugs, no..... Well... Nothing but GOOD. I am so sorry that he was taken from us. I feel - indescribable emotions that I am certain do not even come close to those felt by the people who actually knew him. Just want to say - THANKS for the time he was able to give. I am so sorry. His memory will live FOREVER - even by those who did not know him personally. Take care.

God bless you Orio, you are an inspiration to us all. Your heroism and selflessness are a stark contrast to the tragic and incomprehensible events of that day.

My wife and I visited NY in 2004, and as a volunteer firefighter, I thought it was important to visit both ground zero and the fire museum. But it wasn't until I heard the recording of Orio on TV the other night that it really brought home what the true heroes of 9-11 went through that day, and to the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice that day, we will remember you always.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
