I was nine when this happened and knew so little. In some ways I tried to avoid finding anything out 'cause I was afraid of being traumatized and overwhelmed for someone not actually involved in the event.

I always wanted to visit the World Trade Center living in New York. I never got the chance. The last I remember was driving back to the state and seeing them from a distance. I thought, "Wow!" They looked interesting and, for a nine year old, cool as well.

I don't what happened. I decided to research 9/11 for my own personal reasons. I found out so much, and seeing the people in the world trade center helping to save lives and risking their own is extraordinary and something so heartwarming. A lot of lives were lost, but people like Pablo Ortiz helped to diminish some of those numbers. He shows what a true hero is.

I was five when this happened. I've now learned more about it. This man who rescued people on the 89th floor of the North Tower was a hero. He didn't make it, but he did it so others might live. This man deserves a special ceremony each anniversary of 9/11. He died to save others. May his soul rest in peace, knowing that he saved others.

As others have said above, I hope that if I found myself in such a situation, I would be selfless enough, as this man was, to think of others before myself.

I am a South African married to an American. I lived in the USA for a while, and it is the most beautiful country in the world, filled with such pride and such wonderful people. It's known as the land of the free and the home of the brave, and it sure is! I am reading the book "102 Minutes: Inside the World Trade Centre," and my heart breaks when I read and see what all those wonderful, brave people went through on 9/11, the heroes, the survivors, and the ones who are no longer with us. I know that the ones who are not with us anymore, like Frank de Martini, Pablo Ortiz, Todd Beamer and his men, and so many more not mentioned, hold a special place in heaven. My love and thoughts are with all the families. May God continue to bless America, the American citizen, and all the people who live there always.

Much love,
Marion J Ervin

At the risk of oversimplifying a man whom I never met, since hearing about his bravery, I have always thought of him as "The man who went up."

Rest in peace, Paul. It is people like you who give me hope in humanity.

Well I was watching "Inside the Twin Towers" my soul meet a true heroic savior. A man who showed the world that good still exists and that angels are real. A brave man who brought life to so many others and there families. Pablo Ortiz will forever hold a special place in my heart. He was truly heaven sent and a hero in every sense possible.

Have just seen a programme on the twin towers and seeing the bravery of Pablo and Frank Di Matini made me wonder and hope that if I were ever faced with such a horrific situation that I would try to save others as well. I seemed to recall a quote from Schindler's List which states that "Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire." It seems somewhat apt in the situation. Whilst others may see the horror of what mankind can do to one another in the horrific actions of terrorism, it is the likes of Pablo and Frank who restore our belief in the kindness of mankind. That though evil is ever present, true kindness and bravery cannot be stopped, no matter how dark and dim the circumstances are. God bless and RIP all those who lost their lives or lost a loved one in the atrocities 9 years ago.

Love for all.

Mr. Ortiz is the uncle of my wife's best friend. I was not aware of his heroism until I saw the program on the history channel, and his sacrifice touched me beyond belief! I've experienced much racism in my life, but when I saw what Mr. Ortiz did, I never was more prouder to be a Latino man.

To his family I will say that I feel your loss. For some reason I feel connected to Mr.Ortiz. Please know that Mr. Ortiz is the very definition of a true American hero! May God in heaven bless his eternal soul.

My name is Federica. I'm Italian, and today, ten years after 9/11, I want to tell Pablo Ortiz' family that we haven't forgotten him, and we won't!

Thanks to all the American Heroes like Pablo Ortiz and Frank Di Martini for showing us, for showing all the world, that even in the worst ever moments, there are some angels ready to help and to save other people's lives!

Thank you for reminding everybody that our life has got the same value as somebody else's life! Thank you for giving us a lesson that we'll never forget!

Today I feel like saying to Ortiz's family, "Thanks, and be proud of him!" God bless America and his sons!

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
