The Holy Bible said it (St. John 15:13): "Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends." God bless those men.

Mr. Ortiz is a hero in the truest sense of the word. In the face of such horror, he disregarded himself and saved the lives of so many others.
Mr. Ortiz, I honor you and your family as great American heroes. God bless you and your family.

My dear Mrs Ortiz and Demartini,

What can I say? They are heroes. They sit in heaven at the side of god for that sacrifice they gave. I will never forget them and the bravery they showed in the face of so much terror.

I'm really upset by the compassion of Pablo, who did all he could with Frank Di Martini to save others: what a wonderful and amazing answer toward the terrorists! I'm very affected by the way they tried to SAVE. Heroes: oh yes, no doubt about that! I hope they rest in peace after all they tried to do.... My thoughts are for their families, who live in their remembrance. To all people who visit this page: don't forget humanity, courage and compassion the victims have showed! Don't ever forget! (Please excuse me. I'm French, and I don't write correctly.)

I have been watching the 9/11 tv programs last week and just want to tell you that you can be proud that he saved so many lives!

I don't know anything about Pablo, but it made me proud today to hear people talking on TV about how he was the reason they were alive today.

i just want to say to pablo ortiz' family and those he saved that words cannot describe what he did for all he helped get out. I have been watching the 9/11 tv programs for the past week and this man keeps coming up, his bravery and the immense gratitude from all those he saved. he is what you call an angel, true altruism in every sense of the word..just like our ny firemen and police officers and port authority rescuers from that day. I hope pablo ortiz' family is proud and live each day with great peace in their hearts for the mark he left on this tragic and horrific day. bless you all. sincerely, a fellow new yorker, a proud new yorker and american!

I have just been told the story of your husband's bravery in the two towers disaster. I am speechless, you should be so proud to have known a man like he was, a man that showed such an amazing character, putting others before himself. He chose to give life, to save life, and that is a truly beautiful act of kindness and bravery. Your husband gives me hope, and reasures me that even though there is evil in the world, there are men like he was that will continue to shine the light of good in the darkness of the world we live in, even after death. He will never be forgotten. I wish you all the strength in the world for the 11th of september 2006, Olivia Goulding

Yet 5-years after your actions on 9/11, I have just learned of you bravery and will spread your name as a hero as long as I remember! Thank you!

Your husband is beyond what a hero is. I am watching and listening to people who said they were rescued by your husband. The Lord had created and Angel of Love. I am so sorry he was taken from you and your children. Me and my husband are watching it right now and I cannot stop crying. To be so brave and to save so many people when he could have left to safety. That he would go on to try to go up above the 81st floor is so powerfull. He must have been the finest man. Please know that and let your children know. To give his life to save others is the most magnaminous gift I can comprehend. I pray for you and your family. Thank you for the sacrifice he made. You must be a tremendous lady to keep going. God Bless

Pablo (Paul) Ortiz. The fond memories you left behind will live in all the hearts of those you touched. You always showed respect to everyone around you and that is what I remember about you the most. You were a good neighbor, father and friend. God Bless you.

Pablo was taken too early in life.  He leaves two children, aged 19 and 12, who love him very much.  He did not die in vain though.  He was able to save many lives without thinking about his own.  I know, because I met some of the survivors of his heroism.  I know because I was married to him for 16 years and I am the mother of his two children.  The children will always live with the pain of losing him too early, but they have wonderful memories of their lives together.  He has left to them the fact that he died a hero and that they have much to be proud of.

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,

  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
