So sorry for your loss. I did not know Patrick, but reading through some of the tenth anniversary commentary, I came across his story, and I wanted to give my condolences.

The Hoey clan is small and your Patrick has always been remembered by us here in California and Oregon. We pray for peace in your hearts. Your Pat sounded like a great gift in your life.

i never knew you but I am positive you are a good man. I am just in high school and curious about you, because I put your name on the flag of remembrence. This is the worst thing I have ever heard of and sympathy for you and all your loved ones. R.I.P love me

I had the privilege of working with Pat briefly on a project in the mid 80s and still work with many of his colleagues to this day. I appreciated his wise counsel. RIP, Patrick.

In remembrance of 9/11, my high school passed out a red ribbon and a sticker with a name of someone who was killed in the attack. I received Patrick Hoey and thought I would do a little research to find out who he was. From what I have read from all these beautiful comments of people who knew him, I can see that this beloved man loved his family and friends and made everyone’s day a little brighter. Tonight I will put him and all those who knew him in my prayers.

I grew up in the same street as the Hoey family. Mr. Hoey was a wonderful man. A kind neighbor whom always gave you a wave and smile as you passed by. He will always be in my heart and prayers.

I grew up on the same street as the Hoey's and used to babysit for them. I always enjoyed it because their home always felt warm and loving. He always seemed to have a smile on his face. God Bless his family and may he be resting in peace.

Pat, you were a beautiful person, with a heart as big as your smile. I was at the memorial service in Middletown today and my thoughts were of you as I walked thru the path of monuments. You are gone, but your legacy (your beautiful family ) lives on. You will always be remembered by my family.

I remember Mr. Hoey as I knew him then. I recall his trains in the basement, his kindness and hospitality, and his love of his heritage, which he and my father shared. My heart is heavy, and my prayers are with his family, especially on this anniversary of his passing.

Patrick,

I just want to say that I will remember you and your family in my prayers.

I had the distinct pleasure of working for Pat from 1984 through 1990 while with the TB&T Department of the Port Authority. Pat was not only my supervisor, but he was also a good friend. His constant positive attitude and professional approach were some of his biggest attributes. His big smile, warm hellos, and loud laughs were contagious throughout our office. He always had the ability to make everybody around him feel good. One of the things I will always remember about Pat was that he would always talk about his family. I can still remember one particular photo in his office of one of his sons wearing a hockey uniform. For whatever reason, that photo still sticks in my head. Going to lunch at McCanns with Pat and other co-workers is another fond memory I will always have. Till this day, Pat still comes up in many "remember when" conversations. I have never ever heard a negative word ever spoken about him. I will never forget Pat. That's just the type of guy he was. God bless the Hoey family, and please rest assured that he is not forgotten. One more thing: Every time I see Timmy Higgins officiating a Big East NCAA Basketball game, I always think of Pat.

I never knew this man, but he'll always be remembered.

Pat Hoey was my boss for several years. He was smart and an excellent engineer, but he was also very funny. He was such a devoted family man as well.

I was on the 64th floor with Pat Hoey and others on 9/11/01. The last image I have of Pat was watching him comfort Lisa Teretola, who had become hysterical after the plane hit 1 WTC.

The Knights of Columbus are forever in your debt, Pat. You gave countless volunteer hours to help us help others. We will never forget your kindness and compassion. We continue to pray for you, your lovely wife Eileen, and the children. God bless!

We were neighbors of Patrick A. Hoey from 1974 to 1987, so it's especially poignant that I have just now seen this site for the first time a little over two months prior to the eighth anniversary of this horrific attack on our country. Pat was an incredible man of honor and integrity, with a terrific sense of humor. He and his wife, Eileen, raised amazing children who are (or are soon to be) married and raising their own families. I'm sure Pat is looking down on all those he loves and is proud of all these accomplishments. We are very proud to have been his friends. Our prayers and loving thoughts will always be with him and his family.

Dear Patrick,

It has been 7 years since that terrible day. I want you to know that being with you at my dad's office was really fun and special to me. The time we spent together was really great. I miss playing jokes on Wakeane and talking to you. I give my best to your family.

Sincerely,
Katie Lalama

When I read the USA Today article about Pat Hoey and others, I began praying for him and his family. I have continued to do so and will go on praying for them. Our hold on life is, at best, tenuous. If you have someone in your life that you love, I encourage you to tell them you love them today and every day that you can. May God's healing mercy be with all the people whom Pat loved and who loved him.

When I read the article in USA Today shortly after 9-11-01 which mentioned Patrick Hoey, my heart stopped for a moment. My dad has the same name, and even though I knew he was safe in Missouri, I had to call him immediately. I told my Dad, Ret. Mjr. Patrick H. Hoey, Jr., about the article, and our family has prayed for Patrick Hoey and his family ever since. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you always.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
