9/11/11 It has been ten years today since the horrific terrorist attack on our great nation. There has not been a day that has gone by since then that I do not think about the victims. My husband, I and our 2 grandchildren (ages 7 and 1 year old) went to church as usual. But today our church held a dedication to the victims of 9/11 by showing a video for everyone. I do not think there was a dry eye in any of the pews. The adults have not forgotten the sacrifice that you and your family have paid. The younger ones that had not yet been born at that time was also moved to tears. The ironic thing is 9/11 is a sad day but also a very happy one for me as my 7 year old grandson was born on 9/11. I like to belive that God did that for a reason, hoping that some day he will make a huge difference in this world to bring something good out of 9/11. All of us went to Lake Eola, Orlando, Fl that evening where the city of Orlando gathered to have a memorial service. It was very moving. We had a candelight vigil and prayed for you, your family and all the other victims. The city had placed 2977 small flags in the ground with the name of 1 victim on each flag. The mayor offered eveyone in attendence to feel welcome to take one or more of the flags home with us. Your name, Paul A. Tegmeier was on one of the flags that we got to keep. We do not know you personally but have found that you were a voluntter firefighter before working for Hyde Park FDNY Engine 4. Your family and friends thought you were a wonderful, compassionate man and good father. My grandson said a special prayer for you and your family at bedtime. You and your family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers always. You will not be forgotten! May God always bless you in heaven and your loved ones here on Earth until they can one day be with you again!

I am thinking of you today Paul. Also thinking of your dear family.
10 years ago today evil tried to rob us of our freedom. Thanks to you and others freedom prevailed. God bless you and may you be at peace.

I worked with Paul at IBM, we were on the emergency control brigade together. He spoke often of his dream of becoming a NYC firefighter, I was very excited for him when it happened. He died doing what he truly loved. I think of him every time I hear the words 9/11. His bravery and sacrifice are not forgotten.

My name is Dan Phelps and I am a Firefighter in Grapevine, Texas. I am participating in the Memorial Stair Climb on Sept. 11 2011. I have been lucky enough to be selected to represent Paul Tegtmeier in my climb. Thank you to all who posted comments about Paul, for now I feel very lucky to represent such a great guy. Thank you so much and my thoughts will be with the Tegtmeier Family as I climb.

Thinking of Paul always makes me smile. He was a gracious person with a gentle, dedicated spirit. I know his family continues to be proud of his young life. He is an honorable man and now lives in God's heart.
God bless you Paul.

I lost several friends and colleagues on 9/11/2001. My dearest friend was ... Michael Montessi (FDNY Rescue 1). I am an EMT student and proud to say that I treated Mrs Tegtmeier today, and she was as strong as any of us could ask for. I only wish that her ER care was as proactive as the care she was given from her home. I am a new EMS student with a fairly extensive past military experience.

We did not know Paul personally, nor are we closely related, but as a Tegtmeier myself, I think of Paul often. Thinking of him and his family today. God's blessings.

It had been many years since I had seen Paul when my mother informed me that he had been one of the firefighters who had gone down in the towers. I quickly found myself thinking back to when he was a boy scout, a ball player, and a member of our church. I remember his perpetually cheerful smile and quiet demeanor. He was always so pleasant, whether he was watching over his younger siblings or helping an elderly person to their car after church. I still think of him often and know that the angels in heaven must count themselves lucky to have him there. God bless Paul and those he left behind.

I used to work at a daycare where Paul's son Aric used to attend. Paul was the nicest man ever! He always came in with a smile. He stood out to me because whenever he came to pick up Aric (who was maybe only one at the time), he would stay and spend time with his son and the other children. He didn't run out the door like a busy parent, although I am sure that he was. He was a sincere and genuine person... I could tell just by his smile and the way he gave his time to his son. God bless him and his family. He will never be forgotten.

I only met Paul a few times in person. I knew him through my parents, who, upon their arrival in Hyde Park, found an instant and dear friend in him. He was always there to help them in whatever way he could. He was kind and generous. And on the day that my father had a terrible accident, Paul was first on the scene to lend his care. He was a truly special person, and he will never be forgotten by my family.

Paul was my friend and neighbor from about age 2 (me being a year older), when he used to pronounce his Aunt Gertie Tarkos "Aunt Dirty".

Paul and his family lived on Matuk Drive, named after my grandmother.

Paul was a volunteer fireman at RECO, Roosevelt Engine Company One, in the East Park area of Hyde Park, NY for many years before joining FDNY.

I last saw him in 1994, and was back visiting Hyde Park in 2000, when I met up with his brother, Jack, on Matuk Drive.
Jack was carrying Paul's kids with him, about a year before 9/11.

A good friend to me, to Hyde Park, and a credit to people who really care about their neighbors, whether Hyde Park, New York City, or anywhere in the USA.

Rest with the Angels, Paul.

Paul was a neighbor of mine growing up. He was always the nicest kid, great family, never wild or flashy, but always kind and polite, a really great guy. I moved away and hardly saw anyone on my visits home to see my mother. When she passed away, I was incredibly moved to see him show up and pay his respects. And, had I known in time, I would have made the 6-hour drive to do the same. Other than that short meeting in adult life, my memories are of him hanging out in our neighborhood group of friends, riding bikes, reddish hair and freckles (if I remember correctly). I have thought of him often since his passing ... and I only hope his wife and children are well. He lives on in our memories.

I wear a bracelet that says "FF Paul A. Tegtmeier FDNY Engine 4". I wear it ever day to remind me that there is more in our world than just us. Let's NEVER forget. Thank you.

Approaching the 5th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, I'm still remembering your sacrifice. You are my hero.

I did not know Paul but I wear the bracelet with his name and never take it off. Think about you every day. Thank you for your sacrifice.

I didn't know Paul but I am wearing his bracelet.  I am a teacher in So.Cal and last Friday we had one of our clubs on campus hand out a bracelet with the name of one of every victim who died 4 years ago.  I've worn the bracelet all weekend and have kept Paul in my thoughts.  I came to this site in hopes of finding out something about the man who died on that tragic day.  The men, women and children who were victimized that day have not been forgotten.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
