Richard and I were teenagers together in Riverdale, NY. We were part of a crowd of late teens growing up during the Vietnam years with all of the inherent turbulence and uncertainty of that era. As he was a year or two older than me, his magnetic personality made him a model to which I was attracted. He was a man's man, young, strong, smart and self confident. He took a liking to me and, fortunately, advanced traits of honesty, character, humor, compassion and hard work that motivated me to be a better person and to pursue a rewarding career in government service. We drifted apart after his return from the war but I never forgot him for the example he set. The irony of his death at the Pentagon is haunting especially in light of his harrowing survival in Viet Nam. His fate wasn't fair, but I know he would have told us to carry on. That's Ritchie.

I did not personally know Richard, but his son and my cousin have been best friends since they were little kids and live practically next door to each other. His wife also brings their dog to the animal hospital I work at. So when I heard, it really hit close to home. Tho I didn't know him, I have always felt for his family and loved ones. My deepest sympathy for those who knew him and his family, even 8 years later and every year to come.

Rest in peace. God bless you. You are not forgotten.

i worked with Rich at synectics in the early 90's. It wasn't long enough to become very close, but from the moment I met him, he was one of my favorite people at synectics because he was so straight forward and honest. He gave me insights into myself that I greatly appreciate. He gave me advice that I still hear today. I think of him often, and of his wife and children. I want you to know that I still bless him and that his family is often in my thoughts and prayers. I feel that Rich was deserving of so much - I always appreciated his service to our country and his clear thinking on so many things. I just liked him and I just wanted you to know that and that I do miss him. Bless you.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. We are maintaining this site with our own money and time. We try to keep the advertisements to a minimum and we try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.
