I only met Richie once, but I never forgot him. And what a wonderful person he was! My sister worked with him in NJ in Perth Amboy in dispatch, and she still cries when she hears anything to do with 9-11 or his name. He is and always has been a remarkable soul. God bless Richie and his family.

I remember that night I put that record on my turntables, and you, Richie, said, "I did not know you was trying to be a DJ, so let me show you how to DJ Boogie." Then you started scratching away on the record, and Davis, Ricky, and I were cheering you on.

That night stuck in my head always before 9/11. Right before 9/11, I came out of the bus terminal with my records on a way to a DJing gig, and you stopped me outside the bus terminal, and asked to see what was in my bag. Before I turned around, I knew it was you, Richie. I knew your voice, and today I can still hear it.

I did not know that you were gone till a year later in Florida. Danita told me that you were gone. Then I was in denial. I miss you, my friend! We had a special friendship that I will never forget.

Thank you, Richie, for helping all those people and giving up your life for them. I will always honor your name!

My prayers are with you, Cindy....

Ritchie,

I think back to the night when you, Davis, Boogie, and I were hanging out partying and scratching my record while laughing about how funny it was. Never would have I thought that four short years later, we would be saying our good-byes. Brother, I miss you, and I know I'm not the only one.... The memories — working together in the squad, playing football in the snow, tying Mike B to the stretcher — will always stay with me. My friend and brother, you will be missed always.... This year, as all the years past, we burn a candle in your memory....

My dear Richard,

How I miss you. You are always in my thoughts, in my prayers, and in my heart. I just wish we had the time to say goodbye; your sudden departure has left a void in me. I promise to always treasure the memory of our special friendship until the day we meet again.

Richie was like an uncle to me and always will be. He was a hero and had an amazing sense of humor. he loved his jet skis and his motorcycles. He is always in my heart. Love you, tio Richie!

My parents both knew Richie. I've heard so many stories, and I feel blessed to know that apparently he knew me as a baby. I was four or five that day, and all I remember is seeing that big poof of black somoke. R.I.P., Richie.

Richie,

It has been a few years since you have been gone. You were like a brother to me. You always took care of my cousin, and you will be missed more than you know. Watch over my little girl in heaven. I sleep peacefully knowing that she has someone like you up there with her. We lost you both within a few months of each other, and the loss is felt every day. Watch over us always, and know that you will always be my hero!

Love,
Jenny

I didn't have the honor of knowing you, but by reading all the beautiful notes, I see you were loved so much. And I think and pray always for you and the rest who lost their lives. May God bless you and your family and give them all the strength to move on. You were a special guy.

I am a librarian at the University of Texas at Tyler. All of the university staff and faculty received yellow ribbons with names of 9-11 victims on them today, 9-11-2006. I am very honored to wear the name Richard Rodriguez, and I will be remembering him all day today, and beyond.

Hey Richie. Thinking of you always. I was lucky to have traveled to NY in July with my sons and their Boy Scout Troop 118 and as a group, we prayed for you and the Heroes you stand by now. You are missed....but never forgotten.
Love, Jennifer (OLH and Boys Voc Tech)

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
