On this 10th anniversary Rob, I pray for you and all the other innocent victims who lost their lives in the horrific events of that day.

Just a note to let you know I am praying for the family of Robert Douglas Eaton and the loss of him. I am sure he is in heaven along with the other victims of his horrific tragedy!

Rob,

You're still remembered. I worked with Rob at both Hambros Bank and Lehmans (as well as with Ian Young who left a message last year) in the '80s. This was all before he went to the US, but I'm sure he remained the enthusiastic, friendly person that I knew then. Every year, and particularly at this time, I still think of Rob.

Thinking of Robert again at this time, and his family of course - Rob you will never be forgotten - those of us who met you were proud to have been friends and to have witnessed your skill and laughter on so many occasions! It is good to know that people will always be able to read this long after we have gone - To those who are reading this for the first time go and visit Robert's memorial plaque outside the choir practice room in the crypt at St Paul's Cathedral, London where we spent 5 amazing years.

I had never met Robert, but being a Brighton and Hove Albion fan, just like him, we shared the same passion, like many others, the love of football. Your memory will live on every year with the Robert Eaton memorial match. Some souls are too precious to be kept from heaven. R.I.P.

RIP Rob

Really glad to find this. Rob and I worked together at Lehman's London and enjoyed great football banter, with our teams Barnsley and Brighton in the same Division. I remember going to the old Goldstone Ground and going in the visiting supporters section. A Barnsley fan with a broad Yorkshire accent approached me and said, "There's a bloke over tha who says he works with thee." I often think of Rob.

I was at school with Rob from 1977 until 1980, and we sang in the school choir together. As the best singer in the choir, he always did the solos, especially at the Christmas service, and the rest of us would wait in amusement for all the mothers in the chapel to start crying once they heard his voice. He looked and sounded angelic but was in no way an angel outside of chapel! As Craig has pointed out already, he was no great respecter of authority and had a great sense of humour. I have very fond memories of choir at school, mainly because of the amount of fun we had, rather than any great musical achievement, but Rob was always at the centre of that fun.

Hearing of Robert's death was especially hard for me at the time, as I was also dealing with the fact that I was living and working in the same town in Arabia where the pilot of the second plane to hit the WTC came from, and indeed some of the pilot's relatives were my students in the college where I was teaching.

I am now doing research into the relationship between Islam and Western education in Arabia, and Rob is often on my mind as I struggle with the complexities of the subject. He was a great guy.

A day doesn't go by when I don't think about Rob. I met Rob about 14 years ago because my wife at the time and his were childhood friends. Rob and I hit it off instantly, and we became very close friends. Rob was a very special person. He touched many lives with his kindness and generosity. Rob was an avid Brighton soccer fan and a big NY Mets fan. I will never forget Rob singing Karaokee songs in a club one night and how his voice cracked about ten times in one verse. I still laugh at that till this day. I also remember the time we went fishing on his boat out in the Peconic Bay. We didn't catch anything, but we laughed the whole time. His two dogs, Weatherby and Frankie, that he loved so much and his wife Jackie that he adored more than anything in this world. I miss my friend Rob a lot. I have lost many things in my life, but the void Rob left is irreplaceable. Rob was not only a friend. He was the closest thing to a brother that I had. I keep a picture of Rob in my house and next to it his e-speed hat that he gave me just before that awful day. It's all I have left of him, but those memories, some of them I shared with you and many more that I keep, will keep his spirit alive.

To our uncle Rob.. we love you and miss you. We will never forget the times you took us to Disney world, fishing, to the beach house, and helped Helen with her math homework and the time Joanne ate your sour patch. (Sorry 'bout that, but they tasted good.) Also the time we went on the boat and aunt Jackie left you behind and made you swim back and also the time you taught us to rollerblade. Even though we were so young at the time when we did all this stuff, we could never forget all the great times we had. We love you so much and at least we have the great memories to look back on.

Love always and forever,
Joanne and Helen...

I did not actually know Robert, however when 9/11 was stated as "touching everyone" it was true.
Like myself, he is a Brighton and Hove Albion "soccer" supporter in England.
5 years on he is remembered by the club and its fans. I have been to Ground Zero, seen his name and feel genuine sadness for his family.
I am sure that he will live long in our memory as will all the other heroes.

I was one of Robert's best friends at school between the ages of 8-13 and have never forgotten him. This week has been very poignant with constant reminders and reconstructions on TV so he has been much in my mind. He was a one off - always up for a laugh and willing to cock a snook against authority, but wonderfully skillful in all the important areas of life eg. music and sport. We cycled round the West of England one summer aged 15 in rain and shine and laughed for a fortnight. I was unlucky to have lost touch during the past few years - you never imagine someone is going to go so soon - My thoughts are with his family today. He was a passionate man with a wicked sense of humour and a deep love for many people not forgetting his beloved Brighton. And he had simply the best boy soprano voice I ever heard

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
