It was 10 years ago I was 4 years old and I lost the most important man in my life. He was a hero for saving everyone I just wish he knew what he was giving. There were many times I prayed that he would have lived long enough so he could see me preform. People tell me when they look at me they see him. I miss him the world lost a hero and I lost a father

Being the person I am, Richard P. Higley, I too mourn the death of all of the people who gave their lives with courage and conviction. Knowing that someone who could be a distant relative sacrificed their life for me and what I believe in brings me closer to this tragedy. god Bless Hime and his Family and all of those who gave..........

My name is Glenn Higley and I live in the UK. I have very recently learned that a Robert Higley died in the 9/11 attack. I too have a child named Robert who is nearly 5 years old and can only hope that he will grow to be a man remembered so fondly as your Robert clearly is. My prayers will be with your family always...

Have visited the memorial 2 weeks ago and have seen a Higley who sacrificed for America in 2011. I am a NYer and it has touched me deeply to see what might be a distant relative. As we approach this 10th anniversary, I am touched and grateful for a true hero. I will think of you on September 11th.

Robert was well represented by CBS as a hero, who died trying (and succeeding) to save others.
In passing, the first Higley in the US was Capt John, b. 1/22/1649, entering the colonies about 1664 as a teen. He had a son, Jonathan, starting a whole series of Jonathans (1,2,3 whatever) none born 2/17/1722. The Jonathan referred to above may be another branch out of England, but definitely not the first.
The name Jonathan goes back to Capt. John's father in England. Capt John had a son, Samuel, who named his son Jonathan, b. 7/8/1771. John also had a son, Jonathan, b.1765 who had only a daughter.
Of some interest, there are even connections farther back to Drake, the Vikings, and Charlemaine.

Husband, father, brother, son —
All these wrapped into one.
No one asked for him to die,
Not God, not man, not I.
Saying his last goodbye to wife,
He went for his people to save life,
To do what he had to do.
My son, my son, I love you.

It is 9/11 again and I continue to mourn my son. I cried for nearly 2 years every day. Now it is only on holidays, anniversaries, commemorative events and of course every time I think or speak of him. As I have said in the past, "heroes are not born--they are nurtured, taught, and cultivated." Rob was a hero that day, only thinking of others and not himself. I lost a son, the world lost a legacy.

I know you have no idea who i am, and i'm not going to tell you, but what I do know is that you were a great father to Amanda, a great wife to Vyki, and a great brother to your brother and sister, and a good son to your mom and dad for all I know, so I hope that your family lives a good life and that Rob stays with you.

We are family. I did not know Robert, but all of the Higley's can be traced back to Jonathan Higley, born February 17, 1722, the first Higley in this country. It is sad that anyone was killed that day, but even sadder a Higley was killed.
At our family reunion October 2001, we had a prayer, and Robert Higley's family was included in this prayer for healing of his tragic death. Blessing to you Robert Higley's family.

I too was given Robert's name to create a memorial in my blog. I am honored to do so and words could never describe the sorrow I feel in my heart for your family. I can only hope that I honored his memory and might be able to bring your families a little peace.

Here...many years later, I find a name that hits my heart. I am not as far as I know a relation...but the names, Douglas...Warren and of course Higley all bring home a connection no matter how tenuous. I will never forget the horror and my sympathies to the families will never fade.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
