SSGT Rocco,
I came looking for you here tonight on the Internet only to find your great spirit left us on 9-11.... This comes as a shock, and yet it is fitting in a way because no soldier ever wore the uniform with more pride than you did, and you represent everything those enemies hate in us ... the ability to laugh and live life to the fullest. I know you, Rocco, and I know what you had to have been doing on 9-11 ... helping to save others and putting your big heart and soul out there.... I salute you, my old friend. Thanks for having my back in the worst of times and giving me friendship in the best of times.

Ricky,
Every year when the list of names of those lost on 9-11 is read, I always wait to hear your name — and then I think back to the years in Plainedge High when we were together and having fun. Rest in peace, Ricky....
Love,
Gail

I just came across this site. Rocco did some work at my office and then later finished my basement. What a wonderful guy he was—a great craftsman, very caring, and with a good sense of humor. Whenever I would see him, it felt like seeing an old friend. I cried when I heard he perished.
I send my best to his family. He was a great man!

I never had the chance to meet Rocco. I only know him through his dear friend, Kevin. 9-11 is a day we will always remember. My prayers are with your family, Rocco. May you rest in peace.

What a great guy. I will never forget Rick asking me if I would mind if he asked out Marion. She and I had dated for a couple months. Rick said he didn't want to step on any toes. That was around 1968, after Marion and I broke up. I had a lot of respect for that man and will miss him.

Rocco, what can I say? There is not enough room on this page to list all the memories. It has been very difficult for those of us who were left behind. Rest in peace, my dear friend. I will never forget our time as friends.

Today is Tuesday, 9/11/07. It has been 6 six years, and it was like it was yesterday. I have not forgotten. My brother Bob wrote a wonderful poem about 9/11 that I hope he will read at the feast in Massapequa on 9/30 at the village pub. I just became a teacher in CT, and I promise those in my class will never be allowed to forget.

Rocco,
It's been 6 years to the day since you left us. It's ironic, after high school we went our separate ways, only to bump into each other occasionally. I rarely thought about you then. Now that you're gone, hardly a day goes by when I don't think about you. Sometimes you visit for a few moments while other times you dwell in my mind for quite a bit longer. My biggest regret was that at our last HS reunion, I sat down right next to you and I didn't even recognize you. But I still remember, decades ago, when you had that illness. Since you weren't coming to school, I would come and visit you. We couldn't have been more than ten years old. Years later you once told me I was the only one who came to visit you. Well, at my first opportunity, I will make it a point to visit you again. Rest in peace Ricky.

Marion, my prayers go out to you and your family. Living across the street from Ricky, I've watched him grow from a beautiful little boy to a fun-loving and caring man. Not a day goes by without me thinking of him. I know he is watching over all of us. He was just that kind of guy. He is truly missed by my whole family. I know you'll dance with him in heaven some day.

We had a great time at our reunion. It was great seeing everybody all together. Rocco, Steve Landino, and I hung out the whole time. I was really hurt when I found out about Rocco. I hope god has him a peaceful place because he'd be the person I'd vote for out of any of my friends.

It will be six years tomorrow that I lost my best friend, husband, and father of our daughters. I finally feel able to share what this wonderful man meant to me, though I fear my words cannot express what is in my heart. Let me say nobody has ever been able to make me laugh harder, frustrate me more, or feel love the way this man did. I lived much of my life through him as his zest for life was so great. He never feared exploring new opportunities, meeting new people and embracing them, and taking risks. I admired him and loved him since we first met as teenagers. Today, I look at our three grandchildren and imagine the joy and pride he would be feeling.
I miss you more today my love than I did six years ago. Please know that I feel your presence and pray you will be there to greet me when we meet again.
Forever in my heart,
Marian

Ricky graduated in ‘70 with my brother Russ Cafaro, and I (Jayne Cafaro) hung out with his wife Marian and graduated with her in ‘72. I remember Ricky, Sal Liquori, Jack Colosanto, Freddy Pellechia and Dev and a few others would come over my house on Saturdays to hang out with my brother Russ and wash their souped-up Muscle Cars. I loved hanging out with my brother’s friends ... it was COOL! The class of ‘70 had a lot of good-looking guys.
Ricky always made me laugh. He used to work at Midlawn Hardware, and my mother always bought things from there, and Ricky would special deliver my mother’s packages to our home. He always talked with my Mother and had long conversations with her. I remember my mother commenting on what a nice fellow Rick is.
I talked with Ricky and Marian at the All Class Reunion 2001 and Rick was full of health and life ... and then in an instant he was gone. It crushed my heart when I heard the news. I had just lost my mother and father 2 months apart around the same time. Death is very painful ... grief never goes away ... there is no such thing as nothingness. There is always something, and death is just a transformation to a new life, and we live on and on forever.

Rocco and Marion came to my wedding to Phyllis Gullo in 1972. She subsequently passed in 1987. I was reintroduced to Rocco and Marion in 2000, thanks to Tony Sasso. We were all such good friends in high school, and a smile comes to my face when I think back on the great times we had at Plainedge, and the life-time bonds that we formed, and the trust we had in each other. I remember sand lot baseball--not organized Little League, just a group of buddies one block against another, after you carved out a section of woods that resembled a field

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
