On Sunday, the 10th anniversary of 9/11, we saw on TV the story about Mr. Camaj. In the past ten years, I have never heard about him or read any stories about him. The segment on TV that day inspired my daugther to write a short college essay on a person and a place and how the two are tied together. She chose to write the essay about him. :-)

My thought and prayers are with you this day

I recall watching a news story where Roko told about how happy he was in his work--washing the windows of the World Trade Center. He said something like "This is America--I love it" with a big smile on his face and his arms spread out as if to embrace the city.

Months after this story aired the World Trade Center was hit. I was so fearful that Roko was one of those who perished and then saw his son on Fox News which confirmed my fears. God bless his amazing soul and his family who miss him so much.

When Sept. 11 occurred, I knew my own son would be going to war-Mason is part of the 2nd Btn. 19th Special Forces National Guard unit in West Virginia. His Junior year was disrupted that year when he got called up to serve while on his Thanksgiving break from school at Marshall University.

Before Mason deployed, I showed him the video I had made of Roko washing the "windows of the world". I said "Mason-Roko is one of the people you will be fighting for to make things right in the world."

Mason is now a Staff Sgt. who has deployed twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq and a Bonze Star Recipient. As a Blue Star Military mother, I am glad that America remembers why we are at war and that military families care so much about the families who lost their loved ones September 11.

I am a school teacher in Georgia. Last year my class read 102 Minutes. After they read the book, they created a tribute to the person they followed as they read. One of my students created a beautiful video tribute to Roko Camaj. I would dearly love to get it to his family. Is there any way to do that? I can send it online. Thank you for your help.

I just wanted to express how sad I feel when I read the book, "Risky Business Window Washer." I was curious to see if Mr Roko was working that day, and he was. It just seems like I knew him from reading the book. The Camaj family are in my prayers. I'm sorry for your loss.

I just finished reading my 6-year-old son and my 4-year-old daughter the book, "Risky Business Window Washer, At Work Above the Clouds." We found the book to be very interesting. Roko stated that he would not recommend the job to young people these days, and my son commented about the World Trade Center buildings. I, like some of the others, became curious about Roko, so I did a Google search. My prayers go out to the family of Roko and to all the families that lost their loved ones that tragic day. Thank you for what you did, Roko.

Nine years on, our hearts still scarred from a day that changed our lives. 9/11 a day of infamy that no one will forget. As time passes, the emotional impact fades but still lurks in our hearts. Today we remember all those who we have lost in the World Trade Centers and Pentagon. The courageous and heroic firefighters and policemen who risked everything for others' lives. We also remember those passengers and crew of United Airways Flight 93, who bravely fought with complete disregard for their own lives, so the lives of others could be spared. For without them who knows what other horror could have unfolded that morning. I cannot even begin to fathom the amount of courage these heroes possessed. We as Americans all mourn alongside each other for this act should never present itself upon nor in the name of any race/sect/religion. We hope for a better tomorrow and we will strive for a world where this form of heinous crime is no longer fathomable. We all grieve over the loss of others, and of course, we grieve over the loss of ones closest to our hearts. R.I.P. Roko Camaj.

In our language arts classroom, students read a book called "Odd Jobs: True Stories about Real Work." There is a story in there about Roko, and it makes us all very sad that he lost his life doing his job on 9-11. He sounds like he was a wonderful man.

May God bless you and keep you. And I pray He protects your family and loved ones.

I was reading a book on careers, "Odd Jobs," and read about Roko and decided to Google his name to see if he had been at work the day the towers went down. I was shocked to see that he had indeed died that day. I feel like I knew him and am so sad for the family.

** Forever in our hearts **

Roko was my father Nuo's cousin ... and my dad still talks about their memories to this day.... He says he was a great guy and misses him dearly! R.I.P., Roku!

We were just reading Odd Jobs, a book about weird jobs. Roko Camaj was featured in the book. We think he was a very interesting person, and we feel sad :-( that he died. We are sorry for his loss. He was very brave, like Spiderman.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
