I placed a flag in my hometown of Bridgeton, NJ for Sanae! May she rest in peace! <3

I was Sanae's mathematics teacher as well as her principal at the International Secondary School Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Sanae was an excellent student and creative artist and a person full of promise, who was the school's first graduate to attend Oxford University in England. The fact that she was in New York on September 11, 2001 is testimony to her international education and the global orientation of her family.

9-11-2010 Yokohama Japan

I didn't know you. I wish I had.
All I know is that you lost your life 9 years ago.
And your parents lost a wonderful daughter.
I found a message from your parents, a poem written by a friend, and a guestbook with so many beautiful memories you have left behind.
I thought it belonged here.
Rest In Peace Sanae-chan.
You will never be forgotten.

I saw her picture among the rustling photos and notes on a hastily constructed display set up near one of the subway entrances in Grand Central Terminal in New York City.  Someone, perhaps a coworker had written the number to contact if anyone saw her. It was a candid photo of her laughing with friends.  I didn't know her but I remembered that open and trusting face.  Once or twice on my way to the subway I rearranged a new photo or tribute that was covering her picture.  I don't know why it should be, but her face is the one face that I remember when I think of a singular September day in 2001.  An Internet search revealed that she had left her mark on the world - a wistful memoir from a childhood teacher; perhaps a snapshot of a ski group that she had joined; maybe a photo from a contest that she had entered.  The image that I carry is of a young woman driven to excellence but able to enjoy life, and a good friend who was well loved by those whose lives she touched.  I wish I had known her, but I do know of her - and for that I miss her and honor her with my tears.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. We are maintaining this site with our own money and time. We try to keep the advertisements to a minimum and we try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.

Thank you for your understanding in these matters.
