I remember Art and Scott Powell. The two are so beautiful. I met them through an artist they were producing in 1994. Scott was amazing. I did a search on google to see how they were doing and was shocked to see this. I had been looking for them for years as we had lost touch. I pray for you Art and I Pray for Scott. Please contact me. With Love, DeeAnna. goldlocksent@gmail.com. This is a sad day for me.

As I continue to teach, I share 9/11/01 with my students. Scott Powell is vital to my expressions and connections with the painful loss of loved ones during this horrific occurrence. My students share my sadness, and my need to express love, prayers, and hope for Art's and his family's journey without Scott. With much sympathy, I remain,

Sincerely,
Dr. E. B. Todd
Teacher to Art and Scott
Duke Ellington School of the Arts

I just found out yesterday that you were in the Pentagon on 9/11. I remember you from Duke Ellington. I thought that you and your brother were the cutest set of twins (smile). You guys were really nice and very talented. We didn't run in the same circles, but we knew one another. I am in shock and saddened to hear of your passing. My prayers are with your family. I'm sure that even now prayer is still needed.

I never knew Scott Powell, but on that day that we will never forget, I went to the Pentagon minutes after the attack to help in any way I could. As I stood there and watched the fire burn, I looked down on the ground and saw a gym bag with a name tag attached to it. We were all told not to touch any thing as it was like a crime scene but I had to reach down and turn over that name tag to see whom it belonged to. It read, "Scott Powell," and that name of that hero I shall never forget! God bless him....

I am still sad when I think of how Scott was so suddenly taken from his family and friends... Art if you should read this, know that I am keeping you and your family in my prayers. Make today special by telling someone about your amazing brother, and how everyone he touched was blessed to have known him... Peace

I had a rare opportunity to have lunch with Scott, his daughter, and Art in August, 2001--prior to the September 11, 2001 attack on our nation. With all chance meeting with Art and Scott--I was always impressed with their closeness and their remarkable spirits and intellect. As I continue to teach, I share the relevancy of their lives with young people. I recall their coming to Duke Ellington and sharing musical experiences with the young people. I love and miss Scott, and my prayers are extended to their family members.

I worked with Scott and Art. I feel blessed to have known and worked with you both. God will continue to give you strength. I miss you, Scott.

Scott was truly special. I knew him when I was in high school, and he will always have a special place in my heart. I will remember his intellect, his creativity, his compassion, and his love. I remember comparing him to a rainbow after a storm. I will miss his voice. I will miss his words. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

We both have fond memories of Scott even though we knew him long before we ever met each other. I did Street Theater with Art and Scott and Shawnta would dance and sing with MASQUERADE. We both admired the passion that Scott had for his music. And even though he may have been quiet in his speech he spoke volumes in his music.

Art and Scott Powell were two people that I was in awe of when I was a student at Duke Ellington. I was and still am shocked to know that he is gone. Art please know that Scott is not forgotten and that many prayers are with you and your family daily.

God Bless,
Janelle (class of '86)

I went to high school with Art and Scott Powell, and I idolized them! Their musicianship was superb, even in high school, and every singer wanted to sing with "Digital Touch" (and I actually did once!) I was, and am devastated to hear of Scott's passing. My husband was working just a mile away from the Pentagon on Sept.11, and that was the longest day of my life. I however, was blessed to see my loved one walk through the door. Art, all of your friends and acquaintances from Duke Ellington send our prayers that God will give you the strength and wisdom you will need every day to face your brother's child and give her at least the image of her father. Scott is with you and you two will be togther again in heaven one day.

Not a day goes by that I don't miss my twin brother. I loved him.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
