For Sonia:

As I listen to President Obama speak and agree to send our troops to fight terrorism, right now and so often I am thinking of you and your beautiful smile....

To the Puopolo family (Donny, Sonia, Mark, and Mr. Puopolo):

I would just like to share a few fond memories and words about your special mother (wife): As much as I feel like shedding more tears for Sonia, I am instead choosing to smile and remember so many fun-filled hectic afternoons spent on Ridgewood Drive and Hemlock Street! I just remember as a young child all of us running wild at the scary "Rizzo's" backyard, Wiggins airport, Prescott School, and my most fond memory of Sonia Puopolo sponsoring a very special day of mine (and my family's) at St Catherine's Parish in Norwood, MA. My mother (Jan) misses Sonia terribly and talks of her often and shows me many photos from our childhood.... It was a special time, and Sonia always shined and will continue to shine in my heart, and I'm sure most of all in all of yours.... I hope you are all well and as happy as you can be—your mom would want you to be happy ... so, as I do, try to do your best to remember that she is always with you.... I hope I have not said too much.... Lastly, I attended Sonia's ceremony at Trinity Church with my daughter Emily (my son, Ed, was too young—but I have since told him all about your mom. He plans on joining the military (navy), of which I am very proud), and it was so special and beautiful. Love to Sonia, and love and best wishes to all her family and friends.

My fondest memory of Sonia is a time spent in Nantucket with a number of friends sitting on her back porch on a bright sunny day playing the guitar and singing old songs. She was an inspiration to all, and she will remain in our hearts forever.

I met your mom on a beautiful summer night for an event to make our city more beautiful, preserving the emerald triangle. We found out that evening that we shared very close winter and summer addresses, she on Nantucket and me on the Vineyard, and me on South Beach and she on Fisher Island. And I found her to be one of the most interesting and beautiful women I had met in years. I remember her introducing me to all of her children and how proud she was of you all. I also had my own personal 9/11 tragedy, and I feel your pain. I know your mother would want only happiness for you all. God bless you.

All the best,
JB

To the children of Sonia,
Donny, you were one of my brother, John Kearn's best friends in elementary school and I used to babysit for the three of you when you lived on Ridgewood Drive. You all are in my thoughts every time I think about that awful day. I wish I had kept in touch with you all, you were great then, from what I have read, you are great now. Bless you three and your Dad.
My best to you all, Annemarie Kearns now O'Brien

Sonia Puopolo had more life in her than almost anyone I have ever met.

I last saw her just weeks before 9/11. One would never  have guessed Sonia's real age. She had such am overflowing of life to her. I remember her always with her dogs (like children, she treated them) & I remember her telling me that her favorite day was one that had nothing going on but having tea on a foggy day on Nantucket Island in the off season.

Sonia always spoke lovingly of her children & her husband. & she was as open & honest a person as I have ever met.  She had a heart a bright as the sun & an innocence about her that made her so very human a being.

In her final moments  I imagine that she did all she could to stop what was about to happen be it with her words or her actions.

I will remember her always & am fortunate to have met her.

God rest her special soul.

Sonia, I knew you in Boston many years ago.  I remember seeing you on television on the one year anniversary of september 11th and had no idea about your terrible tragedy. I wanted to drop you a note on the 3rd anniversary to let you know my prayers are with you and you are in my thoughts so often. I did not know your mother but if you and your brothers are any indication of who she was, she must have been a very loving, kind soul with as much elegance that you carry yourself with.  Please give my best to your brothers Mark and Dominique and let them know they are in all of our thoughts and prayers.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
