09/11/2011, I saw a piece of the twin towers today in Federal Way, Washington, I put my hands on it...I have no words and can only wonder what the beam would say if it could speak...I took pictures of it and zoomed in on the names in my picture and found your name...a name we share. My heart goes out to all the families touched by this, my heart goes to those left behind to go on...May God hold you all...we will never forget...and we give our hearts to all the untold stories in this tragedy...

Thinking of you, Greg, and the rest of our friends from our days in Buffalo, NY. Gof Bless

Just wanted to say that I was very touched watching a documentary here in the UK about the 9/11 twins and your story told so lovingly by your twin brother Greg and the rest of your family. The special bond you had was so evident even through his words alone. I hope you are at peace and may God bless you and all your family. Here in the UK we will never forget you and others like and you and your loved ones are in my prayers, especially at this time of year.

Stephen;
Words cannot express the sorrow I felt when I heard the news nearly 10 years ago. The laughter and fun that you and Greg always shared with those of us at Buff State, both in school and during alumnni events, is firmly etched in my mind. How lucky was I to have been called your friend? Not coincidentally, I am in GTMO now, where I am reminded daily of the the sacrifices you and so many others have made. May God continue to bless you, Greg and your families. You will never be forgotten.

Stephen - thinking of you today...RIP my friend.

It's been so many years since we played ball together for Forest Hill Little League. Very few memories last a lifetime, and it's only those that remain dear to your heart. I will always remember Steven and Greg for the big smile they always had on their face and for their great sense of humor. They always kept you laughing. Although Steve is no longer with us physically, he remains in the hearts of all that he has touched. R.I.P., Steve.

To the Hoffman family, you are forever in my prayers.

Dear Stephen,

I was heartbroken to read your story told by your twin brother, Gregory, and I just wanted to drop by and leave you a note to let you know I was thinking of you. I, too, am an identical twin, and I would have been devastated to lose my twin. God bless you and your family, and we will never forget.

And to Greg:

God bless you. Stephen is with the Lord, and I know your brother is thinking of you and his family. God bless.

To the Hoffman family,

I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers today. Steve, along with his twin Greg, left quite an imprint on Buff State! I always laugh when I think of the crazy and great things they used to do.... "Ghost Busters," "Save the Pub," and their sense of humor! Please know that I have not forgotten and that I say a prayer for all the families every year.

Stephen -

Though we had only corresponded over the phone, I worked with your sister Helen and brother Gregory. Your life had touched many and you must have been the best brother ever. I pray for your family and think of you often as the world is missing a great person, brother, son, uncle and of course father and husband. God bless you and your family.

Tomorrow is the ninth anniversary of the day I lost my very close friend, and it is no easier today than it was on that day. Stephen, I miss you but am comforted by the fact that you are looking down on me every day. I often pray that you guide me from above. Every morning as I get ready for work, I see your picture on my mirror ... and your infectious smile that reminds me how much you loved life and all the people around you ... an example for all of us to live by.

I am so lucky to see your daughter Madi often.... You would be so proud of the wonderful young lady she has become. Your wife Gabe has done an amazing job bringing her up.... You obviously have watched over them both from above. I pray that you and God continue to watch over them, your brother Greg, and the rest of your family!

Love you, my friend.

Steve,
Many of us have moved away from Forest Hills, but that was the greatest place in the world to grow up. You, Greg, and all the Hoffman boys made pick up games in PS144 school yard a learning experience. You always took care of the little guys, lent a hand, and made sure we were ok after one of your brothers boxed us out and put us on the ground- but it all taught us how to play hard, work hard, and help a buddy.

Hard to believe that it's nine years- you are always in our discussions about growing up, and God took a great man when he took you, my wife and I pray for your wife, daughter, mom, dad, brothers and sisters-

Rest in Peace, and know you made a difference in everyone you and your brother met!

Steve:

You were one of the guys I looked up to at Holy Cross—now I continue to look up to you but in another way. May God watch over your family as we remember you on this day ... and every day.

Just wanted to say I'm thinking about you and Greg. To this day Jackie and I toast you and wish you both a Happy Birthday at midnight between our birthdays. Twins are a forever bond. Peace is what I wish for you both as well as your family.

If you are really lucky in life, you may get to know one or two really good people in life. I was lucky enough to know you. God bless. We miss you.

Remembering Stephen, and the entire Hoffman family was part of my life in the Forest Hills Little League. We miss you very much. Rest in peace.

Twin,
Joined Gregory and your family at Our Lady of Mercy yesterday for your Mass. I had a big smile when thinking about you, Greg and I being chased around the church basement by irate nuns trying to keep us under control. I miss you and love you.

Dear Coach Steve,

It's been six years since the September 11th attacks, and not a year goes by that I don't think about you. I lost a lot of close friends and fellow marines on that day. I was actually working in the Pentagon on 9-11. I had previously left an e-mail for Tim to pass on, which he did. I have since read some of the comments on this site, which I have visited for the first time. I have since gotten out from the Marine Corps honorably and am about to graduate from college with my Bachelor's, and I wanted to tell you thank you for teaching the "Wolverines" back in 1991-92 that life is what you make of it. I wish you were still around. I have three children now, 2 girls and a boy. My little cousin now plays for the pee-wee Falcons, and I tell him the story of how you, Greg, Tim, and Brian started the program from the ground up. You were a true inspiration to a lot of people, and I truly wish you were still around, not just for football, but for society as a whole. You will forever be in my thoughts, and one day we will meet again in a better place. Godspeed. Semper Fi.

Coach Steve,

You are missed so much. You taught me so much throughout the years from 12 years old to 18 years old. You helped me grow not only as a football player, but also as a man. You will always be in my heart. I thank you for some of the best moments in my life, and I STILL owe you the last championship! I appreciate everything you've done for me. You are missed dearly and never forgotten.

I was watching the memorial on TV this morning 9/11/07 and saw the name and face of Stephen. I knew him when I attended Buffalo State College. He and his brother were great guys with tremendous spirit. I am so so sad to hear of this tragedy and will continue to keep Stephen and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
