Twin,
Joined Gregory and your family at Our Lady of Mercy yesterday for your Mass. I had a big smile when thinking about you, Greg and I being chased around the church basement by irate nuns trying to keep us under control. I miss you and love you.

Dear Coach Steve,

It's been six years since the September 11th attacks, and not a year goes by that I don't think about you. I lost a lot of close friends and fellow marines on that day. I was actually working in the Pentagon on 9-11. I had previously left an e-mail for Tim to pass on, which he did. I have since read some of the comments on this site, which I have visited for the first time. I have since gotten out from the Marine Corps honorably and am about to graduate from college with my Bachelor's, and I wanted to tell you thank you for teaching the "Wolverines" back in 1991-92 that life is what you make of it. I wish you were still around. I have three children now, 2 girls and a boy. My little cousin now plays for the pee-wee Falcons, and I tell him the story of how you, Greg, Tim, and Brian started the program from the ground up. You were a true inspiration to a lot of people, and I truly wish you were still around, not just for football, but for society as a whole. You will forever be in my thoughts, and one day we will meet again in a better place. Godspeed. Semper Fi.

Coach Steve,

You are missed so much. You taught me so much throughout the years from 12 years old to 18 years old. You helped me grow not only as a football player, but also as a man. You will always be in my heart. I thank you for some of the best moments in my life, and I STILL owe you the last championship! I appreciate everything you've done for me. You are missed dearly and never forgotten.

I was watching the memorial on TV this morning 9/11/07 and saw the name and face of Stephen. I knew him when I attended Buffalo State College. He and his brother were great guys with tremendous spirit. I am so so sad to hear of this tragedy and will continue to keep Stephen and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Coach Steve I will always miss you and always keep you and your family in my prayers unfortunately I never got the chance to thank you for everything that you did for us kids who loved nothing more than playing for you on Sundays. I guess I didn't aprreciate things as much when I was 14 years old, but those great memories of you and our 1995 championship will always be something I will cherish for the rest of my life. You sacrificed countless hours with us away from your family and helped us become not only better football players but better human beings, and I never got the chance to thank you.

You will always be our hero. We think of you every day and tell our children all of the many great stories and memories you gave us in Forest Hills. Growing up in the house behind yours was THE BEST! God Bless You in Heaven. We know you are the sweetest angel up there. We pray for your beautiful wife and daughter. The Hoffman's are the nicest most loving family in the world. We Love You All Dearly, and think of you constantly. With Love, The Booton's

There are people that come and go in and out of lives every day. But Stephen, you are one of those special individuals who came into our lives, although for a short period, made it brighter, funnier, and faster paced; yet you continue to be with us daily. Heaven is a place that ROCKS! Thanks for the happy times you shared with us here on earth. All your Buff State pals miss you dearly, think of you, and wish we could have just one more party with you as the guest of honor. Oh, one more request Stephen, when you get a spare moment, would you remind Gabrielle how wonderful she is, and give her a high five for being a loving devoted mother! Thanks - love PARIS!

College was so long ago and too many years went by without seeing Steve. Seeing Greg 2 years ago was wonderful but bittersweet. You will all be in my thoughts on Monday.

Forest Hills was the greatest place in the world to grow up. Kids everywhere, and families that cared for one another. We all remember playing hoops in PS144, and the twins were always willigng to let the little, younger guys play.

That was until the Hoffman boys, Greg, Stephen, Tank, Jimmy and Paulie came walking through the gate. Then you had better plan on sitting for a while.

Stephen, you were a great man, a great friend, and Forest Hills sheds a tear whenever we think of you. Your brothers and sisters lost a big part of them on 9-11, and your parents, words just can't tell them how sorry we all are.

Peace, God be with you, and know that our community will forever have you in our thoughts and our memories.

With the 5th anniversary just around the corner, the thoughts of Stephen are more and more at the surface everyday. This past weekend, all the Buffalo gang invaded JT's house or a summer bash in the new pool. Stephen would have had a blast as usual......And I couldn't help notice, as I sat there, that the family all had smiles on their faces...It was amazing to see! Your friends from Buffalo think of you each and every day Stephen......You are truly missed!

Stephen was my first and only true love and the last 4 years without him have left a hole in my heart.  Our daughter speaks of him often and everyone we see comments on how much she looks like him and how she has his amazing spirit and zest for life.  I can only smile and know that she got the best from her father!! Stephen I miss you and I will continue to tell our daughter what an amazing father you were and how the world lost one of the best.  I love you Este.  TE amo LEE

Stephen was the greatest motivator of young people I have ever met. He was an outstanding person and is missed every day. The world is poorer with his loss... Gone but not forgotten..

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
