Although I never met Tom Swift I will always remember his name. I remember watching the news the evening of September 11, 2001 and I remember loved ones holding up his picture looking for him. Like Tom, I too worked at Morgan Stanley and although I was a few miles away at our location on Broadway and 48th Street, I will always remember thinking how connected I was to him at that moment. God Bless Tom and the Swift family.

The events of the past few days have made me think of Tom Swift. It has been a long time since little league and baseball but good times and great memories last forever.
Tom, along with the Swift family were always so good to me and that I will never forget.

My name is Mary Swift and I was the same age as Tom Swift when I heard about him on tv just like another poster. He has just stuck in my memory because of the same last name. Every year, I think about him and pray for his family (although I've never met him or am of any relation). I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that your loved one will never be forgotten even by those who didn't know him.

Tommy, it's been about 26 years since we moved from Jewett Ave. I often thought about you guys. We were all horrified when we heard you were among the victims of 9/11. My heart goes out to your family and friends for the horrible loss. I will always remember the sweet boy I watched grow into a young man, God Bless you until we all meet again.

On the very first day of this tragedy, my husband and I were watching the nightly news broadcast of the suffering in the streets of New York. I saw a woman who seemed to be wandering in a daze of disbelief with a sign in her hands. She was asking if anyone had seen Tom Swift. She was the first of hundreds who would be televised looking for their loved ones, what I believed to be her son. At that moment I made a promise to myself that I would never forget his name and his special life. Today is the 7th Anniversary date of that day that changed our world forever. I have been thinking about your Tom Swift and decided to see if his name was on a Memorial. Yes, it was. My heart is enlarged by what I have read about him. May God bless the Swift family. Tom Swift will never be forgotten.

We often think of Tommy. He pops up @ the oddest times. Watching sports, listening to the radio, concerts, walking through Chinatown... We remember his carefree attitude, love of sports and music, admiration for friends and family and that infectious laugh, just to mention just a few attributes of this great individual. No one could speak a negative word about him. Much too young to leave us, but you will always and forever be in our hearts and minds. We miss you!

As we approach another 9-11, this one in 2007, I continue to warmly remember my friend, Tommy Swift, and all of our great conversations while we both worked for Morgan Stanley. Although Tommy was younger than my own sons, we had much in common besides our employer. We both loved sports. We could share historical facts about the Yankees and baseball. But we really came together over Notre Dame football. Although I lived in California, and worked most of the time "in the West", Tommy and I would talk on the phone a couple of times a week. He was extraordinarily capable on his job, and had a bright future in front of him. But, once business was taken care of, we always took a couple of minutes to discuss the Irish's last game, upcoming game, recruiting successes, etc. Shortly after 9-11, I was on the Notre Dame campus, and was honored to write Tom's name in a book of special intentions which listed Notre Dame alumni and friends who had died on 9-11 on the altar of the Basilica. The tears flowed, but I knew Tommy would be pleased to be remembered in that special place. As we approach the 6th anniversary of that terrible day, I pray for Jill, and Tommy's parents, comforted in the belief that Tommy is where he belongs - with God!

I first met Tom back in 1986 when I was a freshman at St. Peter's Prep. Our mutual friend Ed introduced us. Like most people who met Tommy, I liked him immediately. The next summer he and I played together on a JC PAL baseball team that traveled to Ohio for a tournament. What I remember most about the trip was how hard Tommy made me laugh, his view of the world, and those that lived in it, was nothing short of hysterical. We had a great time that week. We spent a semester together in college before I transferred and then we lost touch, though I always made sure to ask Ed about Tommy, just to see how he was doing.
Tom's gift was he was always comfortable with who he was. He never had anything to prove, would befriend almost anyone and truly put people at ease. If you did not have fun with Tommy Swift, you were not going to have fun...ever.
On September 11, 2001 I was standing about 50 feet from the north tower as it was struck by the plane and was in the area through the collapse of the south tower. I have never really spoken about the things I witnessed that morning and most of my recolletions blend together in one hazy memory. I lost a number of friends and did not find out about Tommy until many months after that fateful day when I ran into Ed and asked about Tommy. I missed his memorial service and for this I am sorry.
As we have all questioned, why some and not others? We will never know but only trust their is a plan bigger than all of us.
I have made an effort not to think of Tommy in terms of what happened to him on September 11th but in my mind Tommy is that carefree 16 yr old kid, sitting in the back of the JC PAL van, with a big grin on his face, busting on the other kids on the team and making us all laugh.

To the Swift Family -
My name is Kimberly and I went to elementary school with Tom at Saint Aloysius. Tom was always very pleasant and and always had a positive demeanor. Words cannot express how devastated I was when I rec'd confirmation that this was the Tommy Swift I had graduated with. I know there are no words to erase your loss but please know that I hope and pray that the fond memories you have of Tom sustain you during this difficult time and that God comforts you even more.
With sympathy,
Kimberly Richardson

Just to let you know that after seeing your family on 9/11/01, I have prayed for you and for Tom. Every year, I think of you and hope that you are able to find some measure of peace, and also leave our remembrance for your family. He touched people he didn't even know, and for this, we are grateful.
God bless.

To the Swift Family,
I had the opportunity to meet Tom in 1999 at Saint Peters College. We were both in the MBA program and subsequently graduated in May 2001. Tom was someone you could easily strike a conversation with. I worked at UPS and he I believe for Morgan Stanley. Tom was extremely bright. If I missed something in class, I could count on Tom having the information I missed. I recalled Tom’s first child being born sometime during the end of 2000 or the beginning of 2001. I was watching Dateline NBC on Sunday evening September 16th 2001 along with my wife. I notice a lady holding a picture as the camera moved through the crowd of people still looking for family members. I yelled to my wife “I know that guy”, I immediately dashed up the stairs to look for my commencement bulletin to verify the name along with the picture I saw and sadly it matched Tom. That next morning I called Saint Peters College to confirm with Carmella Butel who was the student liaison for the MBA program at the college. Carmella call back hysterical and confirmed Tom worked at the World Trade Center. It's been 5 years and it seems like only yesterday. September 11th will always be the day I remember Tom Swift. May God bless your family and I hope you can find strength on the memorable day.
Regards
Kobina Thomas MBA 2001 Saint Peters College.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
