i saw your name on the paper sunday and did not realize that you were my favorite teachers daughter-in-law I wish I could have met you along with the rest of mrs. yanceys family when she would take us hiking by her house. I bet you were a sweet woman just like my teacher. my thoughts and prayers are with the yancey family and may you rest in peace.

Vicki graced our political bulletin board with her charm, wit and a vast reservoir of knowledge. The real tragedy of 9/11 is that we all have so needlessly been without the shining light of Vicki, among others, for 10 years now.

I used to really enjoy our political discussions on those early Saturday mornings when we would time our kids' swim meets together, and the long discussions we'd have whenever my girl would have a sleepover with your two. Of course, we were both military veterans too... something made painfully clear during the military honors at your memorial mass at St. Bernadette's. I'll never forget the sailor handing David the folded flag, and watching him collapse in your daughters' arms! So sad, even nine years later.

You will never be forgotten.

Still remembering you.

The 3rd anniversary of that terrible day prompted me to tell my son that I "knew" someone who was murdered. Even though I, like Ms Robbie, only knew Vicki Yancey through our online political debates. I did respect her and enjoyed sparring with her.

Right after 9/11, I heard that a Vicki Yancey had been on Flight 77, but I didn't make the connection until Marsha "Libby" Bette confirmed she had perished. The fact that I 'knew" someone who had been on one of those planes made this horrible tragedy even more poignant and difficult to comprehend.

May God bless and comfort her surviving husband and two daughters, as well as her parents and extended family. May they know that Vicki was a good woman who has been missed and remembered by many -- even those who never actually met her.

I knew Vicki online only, on the old TIME Politics bulletin board and subsequent boards.  Despite being on the other side of the country from her, Vicki and I had lively conversations, both on the boards and in private e-mail.  I thought of her as a friend.

Although I was shocked and saddened by the events of 9/11 the minute I knew about them, I didn't cry until I learned, a few days later, that Vicki had been one of the victims.  I still miss her.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. We are maintaining this site with our own money and time. We try to keep the advertisements to a minimum and we try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.
