This tribute is about remembering a hero who also happens to be my uncle not for anyones personal agenda. We loved him NO MATTER what and for those of us who truly loved him we also know how much he loved us and his privacy. Love you always Uncle Wesley.

Wesley Mercer was the most gentle and kindest boss that I've ever worked for. He was like a father figure who always had words of encouragement for his staff. We missed him greatly. R.I.P.

A friend just found a misplaced roll of film from the week of 9/11. On it was a picture of a poster Wesleys' family had put up searching for him. It never stops hurting. God bless you, Wesley Mercer.

I saw a video on YouTube with an individual asking a cameraman if he knew where he might be. I feel for your loss. It is small videos like this one that make the loss of life on 9/11 more real, instead of a statistic. Here is a link to the video:

Weseley was my cousin.
Full of life, always smiling. It's funny that I ended up at Morgan Stanley as well.
I have nothing but good things to say about Wes.
Walk in Peace!

Even before he lost his life helping others to safety, Wesley Mercer was a hero. A U.S. Army veteran, Mercer, 70, served one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam, giving 25 years to the armed services and winning numerous commendations. On Sept. 11, Mercer, vice president of security for Morgan Stanley, was doing a "job he loved," said his sister Mary Cooper of Washington, D.C. Along with his superior, Richard Rescorla, and four other security guards, Mercer had gone up to the 22 floors leased by Morgan Stanley in Tower Two to ensure everyone had gotten out. They had already steered 3,700 employees out of harm's way, company officials told Cooper. "These two retired military people went back up to see if it was clear," said Cooper, referring to her brother and Rescorla. Mercer and his sister grew up in a family of 11 in North Carolina. After his 25 years in the military, Mercer settled in Manhattan, where some of his siblings resided. Married to Queen Hunt, he had two daughters. Jennifer died 15 years ago. His other daughter, Linda, is a schoolteacher who lives in Queens. Although he and his wife were separated, they remained close friends. Cooper said that the shock of losing her brother, who survived two wars, to a terrorist attack is devastating. But she knows her brother died as he lived his life - a hero.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
