On this day we remember, and honor so many of our fallen heros. I was honored to have worked with Bill Feehan in the mid 80"s at the Helmsley hotel on east 42nd street. He had a special quality about him that you could not mistake. That quality was class. He treated you like a man. He was a person who after being around him just a short while, I felt I always could go to him with any situation and know he would handle it as a professional. I enjoyed spending time with him an talking with him. Bill, I will always pray for you and your proud family. I am proud to say I know you and are a better person for it. God Bless you and may your soul rest in peace in heavern.

I will be praying for the Feehan Family and friends this anniversary. I was given his name at the 9/11memorial.org site. This year as part of the St. Louis, Mo.tribute to 9/11, flags will be flown in honor of the victims on the historic Art Hill, it will be a beautiful tribute to all who passed.    God bless America!

In the mid '70s I was the assistant manager of the Park Lane Hotel in Manhattan. Bill Feehan was a lieutenant FDNY moonlighting as a house detective with us. Some of my fondest memories of those times are of the many laughs he and I shared over the years, and I still so value the wisdom imparted to a young man who THOUGHT he knew it all by an extraordinary man who came as close to someone who DID as any I have ever met. On that horrific day we lost far too many good people, and Bill Feehan was among the best.

My dad was a member of the FDNY (Eng.256+303). He spoke very highly of the then Chief of Dept. Feehan. I even wished as a youngster that I were related to him, as my Mom's maiden name was Feehan (alas, the Brooklyn Feehans). My contact with Chief Feehan was decades later while working on the issue of fire and life safety for people with disabilities. I wrote the then First Deputy Commissioner with questions on this topic. Never imagining he'd have time to respond, days letter I received a 2-page response with much information I could use. That was 2000. I cherish this small piece of his life, and I will never forget Chief Feehan. God bless.

When I started working at the Fire Department, Chief Feehan was the First Deputy Fire Commissioner. I did not know him when he was Chief of Department. However, from the first time I addressed him as Chief, "in error", he will always be Chief Feehan to me. I remember asking him what he thought about having his name appear on memos as Chief William M. Feehan, First Deputy Fire Commissioner. He smiled, shook his head in the affirmative and said that he liked it but it could not be done. I told him that I was going to find a way to get the Chief in there. His response was that if anyone could do that, I could. After 9/11, his name on the FDNY Memorial Page was listed as Chief William Feehan, First Deputy Fire Commissioner. Chief Feehan loved the action. He may have been a civilian when I met him, but don't tell him that! He was always a member of the Uniformed Force. Always remember, Chief, that you are in our hearts and will never be forgotten! God's Speed, Chief Feehan.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
