Hi, Bill—

I really forget who you are because when you met me, it was the X-mas before 9/11. I am Jill Petolillo's son, and I have two siblings. I have books, and every time I read them, I am just stunned by what it looked like. I watch on Youtube about 9-11. I am saddened by this. I hope justice will be served to the masterminds behind this.

I am not sure if we have ancestry ties but we share a common name Godshalk. So on this day your name will always be remembered.

I do not know anyone lost on 9-11, but they are my brothers and sisters. I just want to say that I will never forget.

My heart always breaks. God Bless all the families and our Beloved Country.

Hi to Bill and all his friends who contribute wonderful thoughts and words to this site.

Bill's namesake Will is now thirteen months old and starting to walk—he will soon be grabbing a golf club or a hockey stick. Bridget is 4yrs and 4mos and happy that her brother can keep up with her. She loves Will so much and is always hugging him.

To my Irish cousin Denis Johnston, I will get your contact info soon.

Please go to the site of the 9-11 Memorial in Lower Makefield, PA: www.9-11memorialgarden.org

Love,
Grace Maureen (MoMo)

America will never forget. You are a "God's child." God speed.

Yank introduced me to the Grateful Dead music in 1987 that I still love today and it is because of Bill's love for it, too, that I remember him when I listen to Jerry and Bobby. That summer, Bill called me in T-Town and said you have to go to a Dead Show with me. They were playing shows all summer and of course a concert tape showed up in the mail. This song "Touch of Grey" reminds me of Bill for some reason and these lyrics as well:
"I see you've got your list out, say your piece and get out. Guess I get the gist of it, but its alright. Oh well anyway, sorry that you feel that way. Every silver linings got a touch of gray. I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive."

Thanks Bill for the friendship, positive spirit and good times!

Bill, you have a new nephew born February 21, 2008: "William James Haller." He is a happy baby and smiling all the time.

I have just read all the comments on this site and want to thank all those people who have written about you. It is so touching to hear their thoughts and how you shared your life with many of them. I even heard from a cousin I didn't know I had in Northern Ireland!

Sending all my love to you,
Mom

To Grace Maureen Parkinson,

We heard from my cousin, Margaret Lynas (Kells)/Parkinson, about the death of Bill Godshalk in the 9/11 attack. On behalf of your North Irish relatives, we offer our heartfelt greetings and sorrow at your loss. I hope that the US and North Irish relatives can become closer, as my son now lives in Virginia near Washington, DC, and we visit him often.

Denis Johnston (Northern Irish cousin)

Hey Billy,
It's a damp chilly overcast day. I decided to tape today's memorial ceremony and watch it this evening. I'm sitting here on reading all the previous tributes so many of your friends have left. They all speak volumes of the person you grew up to be and bring back memories of your childhood. All the more reason to miss you ever so much today. God bless you and Thanks for watching over us as I know you are always there doing so.
Miss you and love you "LOTS".....Diane

I just added a comment, but found this site and wanted to be sure that Bill's family would see my addition. I knew Bill (Yank) at Alabama. We were friends, and dated for a while from 87-88. Bill has always stayed in my memory as "the one who got away". He was always the perfect gentleman, the best friend and funnyiest guy to be around. I didn't know until this Google search that Bill was lost in 9-11, but I always felt I had lost someone special in this attack. I honestly can't say how devastated I am for Bill's wife and family. He was an amazing person to know, and I am devastated for his family.
I hope his family has found the determination to move on and fight for Bill's memory.... He will remain forever "Yank" for me, hanging out with Clay Shaw, Duncan Williams and his other Phi Gamma Delta brothers....

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
